Biography
I became a social worker for two reasons; I have a natural propensity to talk to people therapeutically and I enjoy helping people. Traditionally social workers help people get where they want to go and assist them in becoming more resourceful. We provide life coaching and counseling. I teach people how to protect themselves and how to become more proficient at using the system we live in.
I am a clinical social worker devoted to helping people move ahead, able to consult about benefits and experienced at helping people work on making their dreams become reality. I have over twenty-four years of experience and am a licensed and registered clinical social worker with the 6-year psychotherapy privilege, which one earns through their level of expertise and study.
I'm a double alumna of Columbia University. My undergraduate BA is in Anthropology and my Masters is in Social Work. I hold two master's degrees, one in social work from Columbia and the other in creative writing from CCNY.
Irving Miller, D.S.W., my social work professor, called me “a mitzvah to humanity.” Mitzvah means gift. He said I have an inherent understanding of people's needs and how to help them move ahead, that my self-awareness and acceptance of my own eccentricities and flaws make it easier for me to accept others. Accepting who you are is the most important thing and is the beginning step.
If you need help e-mail or call for an appointment. I'm available for consultation. I'm extremely experienced with difficult adolescents, and with very young children. For several years I worked exclusively with pre-k children. I'm approved by the NYS Department of Health for providing early childhood services such as evaluations and treatment. I am trained to use play modalities. My work repertoire includes adult individuals, (married and single), and also includes optimizing development of parenting skills. Alternative treatment modalities can be discussed.
My message to you is, "Don't put off till tomorrow what you can do today. Attack your problems with vigor as new ones crop up to replace the ones that have been resolved. Most importantly, always have a goal in sight and be certain it is attainable."
